Impact on Daily Routine

What changes or adaptations have you made to your daily routine because of TED?

  1. I was let go from my last job due to my TED. I was making mistakes typing and when I went to proofread, the letters M and N looked alike. I was able to collect unemployment which has run out. I have applied for Disability and and appealing.

    1. The one doctor I was waiting on finally sent in the letter and questionnaire. Its been a nightmare. Thanks!

    2. so frustrating! Hopefully you see some progress soon. Please check back in and let us know! All the best, Sam S. (TED Team).

  2. I've been waiting for one doctor to submit his letter and questionnaire. Social Security denied me at first saying that I can still work. I have other physical limitations that doesn't make working any easier.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you also have other limitations with that you’re navigating. Hoping your doctor’s input will help you get the answers you need. Please feel free to keep us posted. Wishing you a peaceful day, Jessica H (thyroideyedisease.net team member)

  3. MY DR REALINED MY EYES TWICE THINKING MY MUSCLES WERE THE PROGRAM HE;LD UP FOR A WHILE AMD HAS BROKE DOWN A SECOND TIME!

    1. After seeing 2 doctors who couldn't treat TED and searching on my own I did find a doctor but not nearby. I had to have a family member drive me because my vision was not good. This doctor arranged for Tepezza and I had 8 infusions. The treatment didn't help much. I have horrible swelling above my eyelids and my vision vary from day to day with double vision most days. The biggest impact on my life is like many people I've read about in this forum. I am embarrassed by my appearance and dread going out in public. I need a haircut right now but don't want anyone to see my eyes.Only people who are going through this understand.Others would probably think this I'd no big deal.

      1. First I want to say that I completely understand your frustration and your concern about your appearance. You are not being overly vain but instead reacting to a gross change in your eyes. When my eyes were swollen and bulging, I was aware of how it affected other people. I noticed the startled look on there faces and then how they would avert their eyes and try not to look at me as we talked. I handled this by preempting face to face conversations with a short explanation about why my eyes looked the way they did. This put both of us at ease. I am wondering how long you have been in the active phase. The swelling and bulging may resolve itself once your eyes go into the stable phase. You may want to discuss surgery with your TED specialist also to treat your eyes. My TED specialist performed surgery on my eyes after the TEPEZZA treatment. I am happy with the results. I hope you can find the same results. I am attaching a few articles of interest for you. https://thyroideyedisease.net/p?p=420. http://thyroideyedisease.net/?p=208. These articles address other treatments and also how TED affects our daily lives. I wish you all the best. Roxann K. thyroideyedisease.net Team Member

      2. Thanks for being here and sharing with us. I can hear how much you're hurting from what you've shared, and I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. Would you consider looking into the possibility of someone coming to you at home to cut your hair instead of venturing out? Below, I will link a few articles that I think you may find helpful. Please know our community is always here for you; don't hesitate to reach out for support. If you're feeling up to it, we'd love for you to keep us posted.
