Make up

I can’t wear make up, I have tried , as soon as I put makeup I start tearing and there is nothing I can do to stop the tears

  1. Hi! First of all, I am sorry you're struggling with this. I know how difficult this can be. I dealt with irritated eyes because of TED and didn't wear makeup for years. I can see how frustrating it must be to change something you're used to doing when your eyes do not want to calm down. wrote about this in her piece about the impact ted can have on our emotional energy. https://thyroideyedisease.net/living/emotional-energy I hope it helps. 1. Hi! So sorry you're struggling with this. While I don't have any experience with magnetic lashes, maybe can answer this. Your eyes are going through a lot. People, especially women, build so much confidence with makeup that not wearing any can feel very off-putting. Listen to your eyes and what feels best for them. As far as confidence goes, you are more confident than you think you are. Do your job well and most people shouldn't care what you're wearing or not wearing on your eyes. I know, easier said than done. It's a lot of adjusting with TED. Hang in there.

    2. Thanks for the tag, Kelly. jadeosaye I can definitely relate to how you feel. Makeup really helps me, and I feel vulnerable without it. I haven’t tried magnetic eyelashes, but I think different things might work for different people. I’d be interested to hear about it if you decide to try it out. I’ve also heard from others that certain brands of makeup might work better than others depending on the person. I also noticed that you mentioned watery eyes - I did recently create a video with some tips for managing watery eyes and makeup. Perhaps there might be something there that could be helpful? https://thyroideyedisease.net/living/watery-eyes-managing-makeup Please feel free to keep us posted. Wishing you a peaceful day, Jessica H (thyroideyedisease.net team member)

  2. I’m sorry you’re navigating this. Makeup really helped me feel more like myself, but there were definitely days when applying makeup (or keeping it on) was difficult. Not everyone is able to wear makeup, but some people have told me they found that certain brands irritate their eyes more/less than others. Please feel free to stay tuned to this site, I’m hoping to post a video with makeup tips for watery eyes. Wishing you a peaceful day, Jessica H (thyroideyedisease.net team member)

    1. I’ve had TED for almost 30 years and I finally had permanent eyeliner put on and I am so glad I did. It’s very subtle, just along the lash line but I feel so much better. I have light brown lashes, so this helps them look a bit darker.

If you’re in the inactive phase and not planning upper lid surgeries in the future, it might be worth checking out.

      Good luck!

      1. What a great way of thinking outside the box and putting yourself first. This is something I had never thought of but I bet it is an idea many in our community will toss around. Thank you for sharing with us. Roxann K. Moderator

    2. Thanks Jessica for sharing this info! Even though I'm no longer in the active phase, some days are still a real struggle and even though now after watching it seems like a no-brainer, your q-tip trick is going to help me a lot! Cheers! Katrina

      1. Hi thanks for the note! I’m glad you found the tip helpful. While makeup is certainly easier now that I’m in the inactive phase, I recognize that my eyes are different than they were pre-TED, and some of the tips like the q-tips still help when I need them. Please feel free to keep me posted if you find anything else that helps you! Wishing you a peaceful day, Jessica H (thyroideyedisease.net team member)
